Kathryn Bice,
Executive Director

Kathryn Bice joined the Humane Society in October 2004. Kathryn was formerly the East District Manager with Dallas Animal Services in Dallas. Bice earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut. As a Longwood fellow, her graduate studies included non-profit management at the University of Delaware. Prior to Dallas, she was the founding director for the Brazos Animal Shelter Humane Society SPCA in Bryan, Texas. She served as its Executive Director for 20 years. During that time, she developed six levels of shelter medicine teaching partnerships with the Veterinary College at Texas A&M University. Kathryn has served as conference coordinator, treasurer, and president of the Texas Federation of Humane Societies, and is a long time member of the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators. Bice shares her home with husband Mike, who is a Texas A&M Alumnus.

Bryan Chase,
Director of Development and Marketing

Bryan
Chase joined the Humane Society in October of 2006. A 26-year nonprofit veteran,
he has experience in a wide range of nonprofit operations including fundraising,
financial management, corporate development and training, paid and volunteer
management, branch operation development, strategic planning, marketing and
sales. Bryan has also served as Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer,
Director of Community Education and Director of Health and Safety for the American
Red Cross. Prior to his employment with the Humane Society he was a Fundraising
Systems Consultant for Blackbaud Incorporated where he provided consultative
services to nonprofits that desired to increase the efficiencies and effectiveness
of their fundraising efforts utilizing The Raiser’s Edge software.
Bryan has also served as associate Executive Director for Community Family
Planning Council of NY and Executive Director of Queens Clinical Society of
New York. He also served on the Red Cross Texas Committee of Financial
Development and was a facilitator for the American Red Cross Chief Executive
Officer Orientation for the Southwest Region.
Bryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from York College-City University
of New York and a Masters of Health Services Management from Webster University,
St. Louis. He has also earned certification from Harvard University JFK School
of Government in Organizational Leadership.
Bryan and his wife are New York City natives and relocated to San Antonio with
their three children eight years ago. Their dog “Teddy” was adopted
from the Humane Society over four years ago.

Donna LaMudge,
Chief Financial Officer

Donna
LaMudge joined the Humane Society in September 2006. She has been
involved in the field of accounting for over 15 years specializing
in general accounting, auditing and taxation. She was an auditor
for a CPA firm in Ft.Worth, Texas working with clients in the nonprofit
industry and then served as Assistant Controller of a manufacturing
company in Dallas. When Donna moved to San Antonio in 2003, she worked
again as an auditor with Akin, Doherty, Klein and Feuge, P.C. CPA
firm. While with the firm, the Humane Society became one of her clients
where she worked as member the audit team for two years. When the
position of Chief Financial Officer became available within the Humane
Society, Donna was excited and seized the opportunity to come on
board. She had always dreamed of working with animals or with an
organization involved in animal welfare.
Donna earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and she also holds a current Texas Real Estate License. Donna and her Air Force husband share their home with several four-legged kids. They are two cats named Stinker and Dusty, two Boxers named Chance and Britney and a Rotti-mix named TommyBoy. Britney and TommyBoy were acquired from the Humane Society and Dusty came from a Dallas based shelter.

Cathy McCoy,
Director of Public Relations

Cathy McCoy joined the Humane Society in October 2006 as the Director of Volunteer Services. Her love of animals began at the Memphis Humane Society as a volunteer and grew to a broad career in animal care. She obtained her degree in Radiologic Technology and worked in emergency rooms across the US, prior to relocating to San Antonio. She applied her degree to working with animals at the Animal Defense League for 7 years and turned to volunteer management and media relations. With her experience in the media field, she became the Public Relations Director in 2007. Cathy represents the Humane Society on local television and radio stations each week by educating the public on adoptions, animal care, spay/neuter issues, and supports the city’s no kill plan for 2012. Cathy has been married for over 20 years and has a daughter that will be a high school senior in 2008! She has 2 dogs adopted from a local shelter and hopes to add a feline to the family.

Cynthia Martinez,
Shelter Manager

Cynthia has worked for the Humane Society SPCA for 5 years. She is a native to San Antonio who always had a passion for animals. Cynthia began her carrier with the Humane Society as an adoption counselor and moved her way through the system to become the Shelter Manager, She oversees the daily operations of the shelter. Cynthia is married and has a young son. She has a cat named Amadeus that she adopted from the shelter.

Wanda Mitchell,
Animal Care Technician Supervisor

A native of San Antonio, Wanda Mitchell has been with us for over 12 years ensuring the comfort and care of our animals at the shelter. At home, she cares for three dogs-- Wylie, Snappy & -- and four horses-- Tex, Cookie, Brandy & Jack. "I enjoy my job, and the staff that I work with. I wouldn't trade it for any other job!" she says.

Diana Hernandez,
Adoptions Supervisor

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Diana has decided that San Antonio is her home. She has been with us for over 2 years, bringing her decade of experience in companion animal welfare to the Humane Society. Her family at home includes a Pekingese and foster kitties.

Dr. Courtney Hurst, D.V.M.
Shelter Medicine Veterinarian

Dr. Hurst joined the Humane Society in Octber 2007, bringing years of volunteer and medical experience to our clinic, including a Texas A&M education, membership in the Sheltering Vets Student Organization, and hands-on experience at the Brazos & Bulverde Humane Societies.She came from Corpus Christi to San Antonio in high school, and returned after college. She shares her home with 2 horses, 3 dogs, an English rabbit, a Black Capped Caique parrot, a ball python, and various fish. She offers this advice:
"Keeping your pets healthy is a key part of keeping them happy. See your normal vet regularly."

The Humane Society/SPCA employs part-time and full-time animal health technicians to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for documenting and evaluating the health status and temperament of the animals in our care. This includes providing appropriate medical care and screening of all incoming and adopted animals.

Adoption Counselors / Customer Service Representatives

The Humane Society/SPCA employs part-time and full-time adoption counselors / customer service representatives to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for preparing pets and their paperwork for adoption, providing accurate information and friendly service to the public, and screening potential pet adopters.

Animal Care Staff

The Humane Society/SPCA employs part-time and full-time animal care technicians to help in the care of our animals. They are responsible for general care and maintenance of the shelter animals. This includes feeding, cleaning, disinfecting and grooming. They also assist in the process of introducing potential pet adopters to the many pets.
