Volunteer Opportunites
.................................................................................................................

There are many different teams you can join to help the animals.

Kennel Volunteers
.................................................................................................................

Volunteer with our animal care staff, and help us maintain a clean, disease-free environment for our animals. You can assist in maintaining their habitats, grooming and socializing our cats and exercising our dogs. DOG SOCIALIZATION: Many of our dogs love to exercise in our play yards! Your efforts will help keep them healthy and looking good for prospective adopters. Ask about our Enrichment Team, where you can work one on one with the animals on a few basic comands that also might help get them adopted sooner. CAT SOCIALIZATION: Nevermind that old saying that Cats are independent, our Cats love for our Volunteers to spend the day with them.

Off site Event help
.................................................................................................................

Help our animals find new and loving homes by assisting our adoption counselors in taking pets to several locations throughout the county. We are looking for independent and outgoing volunteers to help with taking care of the animals. This also includes manning an information booth and helping to represent the Humane Society in a fun and professional manner.

Foster Families Needed!
.................................................................................................................

Thank you for your interest in the Humane Society SPCA of Bexar County’s foster care program. The Humane Society provides foster care for animals that are considered temporarily unadoptable for a variety of reasons including age, illness, injury, or socialization. The Humane Society also provides foster care for the pets of military personnel being deployed overseas. Fostering is a wonderful experience for those who want to help animals; for those with children who don't want the lifetime commitment of a pet, but who want to expose their children to the compassion of caring for a pet in need; for those who want to see our military men and women return to their best friend; and anyone who has the time to provide a home and care for a pet in need. The Humane Society is only able to provide foster care for needy pets through the generosity of the local community. Families are always needed, since injured, nursing, and sick animals arrive daily. If you are interested in joining the foster care program please contact Sarah Rihn, the foster care coordinator by calling the humane society at 226-7461 or by email at foster@humanesocietyspca.org.

To qualify, deployment must be less than one year and the pet owner must agree to provide all food, medicines, and medical care for that pet during their deployment.

The Humane Society accepts foster animals on a space available basis only, but does give preference to military personnel being deployed overseas upon proof of deployment orders. This does not guarantee that space will be available, but every effort is made to accommodate our service men and women who have to leave a pet behind in order to serve our country.

Foster Families Needed! The Humane Society is only able to provide foster care for needy pets through the generosity of the local community and those interested are encouraged to register with the Humane Society. Families are always needed, since injured, nursing, and sick animals arrive daily, and it is helpful to have a list of people we can call upon to help.

To find out how you can be a part of this network of caring individuals, contact Sarah at foster@humanesocietyspca.org

Clinic Team
.................................................................................................................

Volunteers are needed to work with our clinic staff and help with receiving of animals, cleaning of the clinic area and bathing the animals. As a clinic volunteer, you will be one of the first to bond with animals that are brought to us and reassure them that they have a bright and promising future to look forward to!!

Infirmary Team
.................................................................................................................

This enables you to work directly with the sick animals. We need volunteers in the early mornings and at 2 p.m. each day. The main task in the infirmary is to walk all the dogs.

Requirements: Must schedule time and you may not be in any other department that day.
